LEFT HANDERS WILL NO LONGER BE BARRED FROM BARCLAYS
This Barclays memo from 1946, which I found in my banking archives, tells an extraordinary story. If you are left handed you would have been prevented from getting a job in a bank before 1946. I find this unbelievable, yet even just a few years ago there were some strange practices.

EGO IS THE ENEMY
What a great book title and there are some fantastic thoughts in Ryan Holliday’s book, which I have just read.
Here are three –
- Have a think about how you manage your EGO
- When you think you know it all, that is the time to start learning.
- Modern psychologists use the word “EGOTIST” to refer to someone dangerously focused on themselves.
Finally Mr Holliday uses a powerful quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Every person I meet is my master in some point, and in that, I learn from themRalph Waldo Emerson
It’s worth reminding ourselves that the word EGO features in the word nEGOtiating. When you are negotiating put your EGO away and if necessary play up to the other person’s EGO.
