NEGOTIATE MY SALARY? NO WAY, I AM SCARED TO ASK!
This is what a delegate on a recent workshop said to me! Why is it that so many people are frightened to negotiate their salary? I wrote this book 10 years ago where I exposed the myths of salary negotiating
I think the reasons are 7 fold. Here are some of them –
1 – They think they are an imposter, not justifying what they get paid anyway.
2- They don’t have enough self-confidence to ask.
3 – They are scared of rejection.
4 – They don’t want to upset their boss.
5 – They don’t go the extra mile so they know they don’t justify it
6 – They don’t put the extra in to be extraordinary
7 – They are lazy
If you don’t blow your own trumpet, no one else will, because everyone tends to look after themselves. The WII FM factor. What’s in it for me. If you don’t ask you won’t get because bosses want an easy life. It’s not what you ask for, it’s how you ask for it, that is where the MAGIC lies.
