Power Negotiating – Manchester United
October 26, 2010
Who really had the power – Rooney or Ferguson or his agent Paul Stretford. What a remarkable affair – it looks like a lose lose in the long run. Manchester United needed to have a longer contract and they must hope that the power in the negotiation has shifted to them. Rooney is earning over £200,000 a week for sitting on the beach in Dubai. The tabloids will follow every move and he will not have a life. He is on the front page of the Sun and the Mirror today – having a row with his wife.
From the body language and the voice tonality of both Rooney and Ferguson at the press conference – neither of them believe that this is long lasting. Gary Neville didn’t think much of it from a players perspective when interviewed on Sunday night.
Manchester United is a football club – owned in US, financed by banks – up to it’s eyes in debt, with overseas players and a fan club president based in London. Where was the power in this negotiation?
