Olympic Negotiations
June 4, 2011
One of the negotiations that takes place in any Olympic city before the games is the transport unions negotiating with the government for a pay rise. Why should that happen you might ask? At the point of the games the Unions have all the power, they can shut down the system and no government will want to see people stranded for the world to see due to their incompetence in negotiating. They will be trying to obtain the best position BP possible for their members
The RMT, the union involved has been refusing to negotiate so far, leaving the crucial talks to the last minute when their power maximises. In yesterday’s London Evening Standard Boris Johnson the mayor of london is quoted as saying “The tube staff would not want to “spoil” the olympics by striking and that “we are having talks about a deal during the games”. Hmm I wonder what Mr Bob Crow thinks who is the leader of the RMT. If you were an underground driver would you be applying the WII FM rule or not wanting to spoil the Olympics. Win / win – win/ lose or lose / lose. Watch the negotiations develop.
