Negotiation
Body Shop
September 13, 2007
I was reminded this week by the passing of Anita Roddick of my negotiations with Body Shop. Over a number of years I had the pleasure to deal with the Roddicks. I once asked Gordon Roddick what he thought was a good outcome of a negotiation for both sides. He told me” Both sides probably feel a little sore about the deal but know that it is a good tight deal for both parties”
Gordon used to have a big round table in his office where everybody could sit round and discuss issues in what felt like a win win win environment. Most meeting desks are rectangular, and more often than not people sit across the desk in a confrontational position trying to “hammer out” a win win deal. When in fact they would be much better sitting side ways on or round a table. Think before you sit
