How many hours are there in the day
November 21, 2010
My friend and President of the Professional Speakers Association posted this and it is very useful
How many hours are there in a day?
This week I have given two presentations where I emphasised the need to put material onto your website EVERY DAY. If you don’t update your site daily, you are not in the same territory as successful companies. Besides research shows that firms which add content every day to their website get business every day from their website. Whereas companies who only update their website every week only get online business every three weeks. In other words, a daily updated site gets at least 365 new business leads each year. Whereas a weekly updated site gets only around 17 new leads a year. Which position would you like to be in? If you have the online conversion average of 1%, it means that a daily updated site will bring you in about four new customers a year, whereas a weekly updated site will require about six years to get one new customer.
Of course, these are extreme statistics looking at the averages. Some businesses will get new customers each month from sites which are rarely updated, whilst those who update daily will take weeks to get a new client. But the average tells a simple story – the more frequently you add content to your website, the more likely it is that you will get new customers as a result of your online activity.
But when I explained that this week, people looked rather dumbfounded. “How do you find the time to do it all?” they asked. Then some bright spark answered “But Graham thinks there are 96 hours in every day.”
If only..! And if only there were 12 days in every week..! But whatever the time we had in the calendar, we’d still moan about not having enough of it.
I have the same number of hours available to add content to my website as you do – probably around five hours a week. That’s all. Roughly half a day. But the difference between businesses which do find the time to add content to their websites and those which find it a chore, where getting those “extra hours” is difficult, is simple. Firstly, it is the realisation that there is no “extra” time available. You only have the same eight hours in a working day as them. It is what you choose to do with them that matters.
The successful companies online have chosen to make their website CENTRAL to their business. Instead of it being a useful add-on to all their other marketing methods, it is THE fulcrum from which everything else is suspended. Once your website becomes central to your business, guess what, finding those “extra hours” to add content every day is not a problem. Because you are using your website as the central point for your business, rather than a sideshow, adding content becomes a necessary part for the rest of your business to work. It is only when you run your business “outside” of your website, that you need to find “extra hours” to do all the required content and updating.
So, rather than worry about finding more hours in a day, you’ll boost your lead generation simply by making your website THE centre of your business. Once you do that, adding content daily becomes a breeze and you’ll get more leads easily.
